These are a direct replica of the very first boots to roll off the production line on 1 April 1960, handcrafted in the original factory (Wollaston, Northamptonshire, England) by cobblers using the original construction techniques. The product, made on the original 59 last, features narrower horizontal tread bars, criss-crossed coring bars, a darker sole, a storm welt bound together on the lateral side, small indentations left on the welt by the original stitching machine, no top collar binding and runs into the eye stay above the top eyelet. This is where it all began.
Material
This is a traditional grain leather, with its rub-off surface polished away to reveal an undertone.
Construction
This is a Goodyear-welted product. The upper and sole are heat-sealed and sewn together, not merely glued like many footwear constructions
Sole
The original Dr. Martens air-cushioned sole, providing underfoot comfort and durability since 1960. It is oil- and fat-resistant, tough and offers good abrasion and slip resistance.
